The Cold Dark Night

The light of the evening dusk fades..

The dimming sun sends out its last golden rays..

The vision of the horizon grows faint..

The dark night now comes imposing..

The silver rays of the moon take its place..

Step after step, I take ahead..

Sometimes up, sometimes down..

Go forth, go forth the inner guide urges..

Hope and doubt now both give way to surrender..

The chirping insects, hooting owls,

Howling wolves, glimmering stars,

Ah yes you are the friends I have,

On and on this path to an unknown place..

The songs of poets, the riddles of sages,

Beckon me on to a promised land..

Every now and then, I hear, I feel,

A voice so dear, a touch so familiar,

Home, home, my heart calls out in awe..

A new burst of energy flows into my weary legs,

Carrying us on, on and on,

On beyond the clutches of duality,

On beyond the cages of identity,

Oh can we not see, see what was always ours..
